Follow These Guidelines to Sculpt the Body of Your Dreams
Every December, a majority of us make a promise to ourselves that we will lose weight, eat right and get fitter next year. Unfortunately, very few of us are actually able to successfully achieve all our goals.
The key is to move beyond vague goals and flesh them out a little so that you are setting tangible goals for yourself to follow.
Here’s how to go about it:
No matter what the latest workout fad is, you simply cannot out-train a bad diet. If you consume more calories than you burn in one day, you’ll steadily put on weight in the form of ungainly fat.
You should aim to lose weight in a sustainable manner so that you lose body weight in the form of fat rather than muscle.
Instead of setting up a low-calorie consumption goal vaguely, download the MyFitnessPal app and track your food habits for a week. If your weight has been steady for the week, you need to lower your calorie intake by about 200-400 calories.
Adding exercise to your routine will help you torch fat faster.
As long as you maintain a fine balance between calories, proteins, and good fats, you are good. Aim for around 80% of your food intake from whole foods [unprocessed foods like meat, fish, fruit, and veg, and whole grains], and 20% from treat foods.
If you feel like having unhealthy treats, eat small portions and call it a day. This will prevent bingeing and thus increase the longevity of your resolutions.
This one is the easiest to get right if you are disciplined enough. You can include your favorite sports, active hobbies and accessible forms of home-exercises.
Make your workouts enjoyable so that you look forward to each session.
Add resistance training to your regimen, preferably for 2-3 times a week. Add sports or other aerobic activities on weekends for enhanced coordination and cardiovascular strength.
Follow these guidelines and you will be on your way to a healthy life within no time.
